Instagram just announced that they will add adverts between the stories-similar to snapchat feature. I guess for most of us; we would be annoyed by ads on Youtube, Spotify. Instagram used to be an "organic" platform for social without any disturbance of ads, and personally I don't want to watch the 15 seconds ads which are not skippable on Instagram. The most disappointed thing about the way of this marketing is Instagram forces users to receive the ads, and they are overexposed, especially when you capture your friends moments. Marketers should lead their customers to get interested in their product and help them explore by customers themselves. On the other hand, the new feature of ads implementation seems a good opportunity for marketers since Instagram has the highest engagement rate among all social media platforms. According to Forrester statistics, Instagram has the largest user engagement which is 58x more likely to Facebook and people spend the most of the time on Instagram compares to other platforms. Well, even though a lot of critiques say Instagram shamelessly copied Snapchat for Instagram's new version, we can't deny that Instagram made some revolutionary changes- users can directly click the brand name in the stories, it definitely makes the online shopping process or brand awareness so much easier; you can also mention any brandname or person in the stories. Yet more than 30 brands have already signed up to participate including Nike, Airbnb etc. Technically, it is going to be a new era for digital marketing through social media as it connects users' daily life to marketers' brands. For users, are you look forward to connect your life to those brands' ads? Here is the Airbnb ads in stories: https://vimeo.com/198759780 Check this out.

Sucks to hear about this, I always find myself skipping through ads. Not looking forward to this new feature.

First off, love the website title. Very relevant piece, i was not even aware this was about to start happening, but i supposed like you mentioned with snapchat, the writing was on the walls. As with all growing forms of social media, "if you build it, the ads will come." I will be interested to see the analytics behind the effectiveness of the ads inbetween stories and whether or not users can skip them like in snapchat.

I agree with your position. I wrote a blog post about marketing on Instagram as well. It used to have no ads and now ads have started to pop up between every other picture. The ads usually have something to do with things I have been looking at on the internet so they do catch my interest so I believe they are somewhat useful. However, they can be a little bit of an overkill.
